Welcome to a new segment of the Maroon that will be focusing on lesser-known/canceled games. This month is featuring Jurassic Park: Survival. Jurassic Park: Survival is a canceled video game for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 that would have taken place in the Jurassic Park universe. The game would have taken place after the third Jurassic Park movie and would star David Vaughn, an island security team member. It would be set on a secret, third island where scientists study and create genetically modified dinosaurs. The government, concerned about overpopulation, would send a security team to ensure the island was safe. However, a shadow organization would also send operatives to the island to collect dinosaur DNA. The gameplay was described as an immersive blend of Jurassic Park and Tomb Raider. Unfortunately, very late in development, the game would come to a halt due to disputes in pay between the game’s developer, Savage Entertainment, and the studio behind Jurassic Park, Universal. They later released a statement saying that production on the game was halted indefinitely and that their studio would cease all involvement with the project. The game has been in limbo since the summer of 2001 and will probably never see the light of day. And that, dear reader, is how we lost one -- if not the only -- official Jurassic Park first-person horror game.
