The Madison High School marching band competed in Orange City, Iowa, on the 14th of October, then again in Vermillion on the 21st. Thankfully, though rain was predicted in Orange City, the band was able to avoid performing in the rain. The band arrived in Orange City at around 3 o’clock, and performed at 4:45. There were eleven other bands in 3A competition, which, unlike usual, was the class in which the Spirit of Madison was performing. Despite the class jump and tough competition, SOM placed sixth out of the eleven bands.
The Spirit of Madison also performed in Vermillion. The band left at 6:45 in the morning, and performed at around 10:30. It was the band's last competition of the season, and was performed in USD’s DakotaDome. With the best score of the season, the band came in second place and won Best Visual Effects in class 4A. To close the season, SOM’s indoor show was held in the high school gym on Monday, October 30.
