Throughout the song “Seven,” Taylor Swift wanted to show the change from how children express feelings to how adults express feelings. Children often throw tantrums to express big emotions that they don’t know how to process yet, while adults often hide or don’t express their emotions at all. In Taylor’s documentary Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, she questions, “When did it stop, where did it go?” referring to where all of the emotions went, how did we change from outwardly expressing to inwardly expressing, and what effects does this have on a person?
It is widely known that Taylor Swift is amazing at storytelling; this song is no different from the others. Taylor describes a kid who was afraid of her father and hid in her closet every time her father was mad. The perspective then switches to an older Taylor who explains how this kid was in an abusive household and how Taylor no longer knows this kid's name or knows her face, but she still thinks about her and has love for her, and all that she wants is to know if this kid is safe.
