Cambree Hunsley

Homecoming Queen by Day, Varsity Athlete by Night

Cambree Noel Hunsley, affectionately known as Cams, is the third of four children in the Hunsley household. Inspired by the letter “C,” parents David and Stacy selected correlating names for their three sons and one daughter: Caden, Carson, Cambree, and Cannon. In possession of a Christmas themed middle name, Noel, her birthday is ironically July 29th, 2006. Cambree is the first sibling to be born in South Dakota and has lived in Madison her entire life.

While Cambree loves her hometown, it’s unfortunately a fifty minute drive from her favorite meal: the Chicks Meal from Slim Chickens. However, she doesn’t have to wait to enjoy her favorite movie, Barbie, which she can stream on Netflix anytime she wants. When Cambree isn’t watching the live-action Barbie movie, she enjoys rewatching old episodes of Dance Moms. This busy senior also stays active by participating in cross country, basketball, softball, and track. On the non-athletic side, Cambree is an active member of the National FFA Organization, National Honor Society, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and Student Council. In her limited free time, she likes to hang out with friends, go for walks, and play Hayday, where she’s currently on level 26, by the way. Her day-to-day playlist features country music, specifically songs by Zach Bryan and Thomas Rhett.

During Cambree’s four years of high school, the highlight is the softball team’s trips to state her sophomore and junior years. The team enjoyed hanging out together, making frequent trips to target, eating delicious food, and achieving impressive finishes: placing fifth her sophomore year and fourth her junior year. A close second to this favorite memory is winning homecoming queen in the fall of her senior year. Throughout high school, Cambree has excelled in Mrs. Unterbrunner’s biology classes, which is fitting because biology is her favorite subject. She explains, “It just makes sense in my brain.” The most valuable things you can do in high school, in Cambree’s opinion, are to seize opportunities and branch out from tight-knit groups of friends. Above all, her best piece of advice is to “not walk slowly in the hallways.”

After graduating high school, Cambree plans to attend either the University of South Dakota or South Dakota State University to pursue a career in occupational therapy. Ten years down the road, she sees herself living in a beautiful home with her husband, children, cats, and dogs while working as an occupational therapist. One of the most intriguing items on her bucket list is to travel to Antarctica and experience the icy landscape. Cambree’s strong work ethic and positive attitude, along with her guiding principle-”It will never be perfect; make it work”-will help her navigate life with grace.
