"Ten is overrated (Some parts not included)"
James Michael Bame, also known as “7” from his gift of seven fingers at birth, is an 18-year-old senior at Madison High School. However, he has not always been a part of the Madison community. His parents John and Jennifer began their journey in Pierre where James was born, then moved to Aberdeen where his brother Jacob was born, and last, they stopped their adventure in Madison when he was six.
James is an avid fan of scouting. He loves scouting so much that he dedicated his last thirteen years to it, and made it one of his top priorities. He loves that he can teach the youth all the wonders of nature and how to survive with only the bare minimum. Because he is around the campfire for most meals, his favorite dishes are dutchies, better known as cobblers. James has a list of scouting experiences he hopes one day to check off the ol’ bucket list, they include: Going to Philmont Scout Camp in New Mexico where they hike 100 miles in a week, traveling to a World Scouting Jamboree, and attending the The Devil Makes Three concert in person.
When asked what James lives by, he states, “Do your best. You cannot control the wind, but adjust your sails.” Also, if given five million dollars, he would spend it all on Scouting America collectible patches. These patches are put on Boy Scout jackets, affirming that he is a top dog.
After graduating from high school, James plans to attend the South Dakota School of Mines for mechanical engineering. In ten years, he hopes to be comfortable, still scouting, and have a significant other. His advice to underclassmen is, “Do anything and everything; free time is boring.”
