Did you know that there is more micro-plastic in the ocean than there are stars in the Milky Way? Did you know that at least 8 million tons of plastic enter our oceans each year? That is similar to emptying a garbage truck of plastic into an ocean every minute. You have probably heard about the endless amount of plastic building up in our oceans and landfills, but are you doing anything to help reduce it?
You do not have to build a compost bin or go pick garbage off the beach to do your part, there are a lot of simple ways you can help. A simple, but effective way to reduce plastic waste, is to use a reusable water bottle instead of multiple plastic bottles. Of all the water bottles purchased in a year, 80% of them end up in our oceans. In correlation with that, cut out the straws. A lot of businesses have taken the step towards no straws, but we can do more. Opt for no straws at restaurants or bring your own reusable straw.
Did you know that every toothbrush you’ve ever used is still on the planet? Plastic toothbrushes are not biodegradable, but bamboo toothbrushes are. Bamboo toothbrushes are actually cheaper than plastic and they are much better for the planet, so make the switch. The same thing goes for razors. Plastic razors are expensive, so why not switch to a cheaper, more Eco-friendly alternative? Stainless steel razors last much longer than plastic ones and reduce a surprising amount of waste.
Switch to shampoo and conditioner bars instead of shampoo and conditioner in plastic bottles. At first glance, they seem more expensive, however, they are equivalent to three bottles of shampoo or conditioner. On top of that, they come package free!
There are so many other small changes that make a big impact on our environmentMakes these easy and affordable changes to your lifestyle and help keep plastic out of the oceans.
