Ford v. Ferrari, a Movie Review

Buckle up students of MHS; Ford v. Ferrari has just come to town and I’m sure you’ll all race to see it. Ha. Maybe, maybe not. This was the story of an epic race that takes place in 1966 in the heat of competitive racing between the rival motor companies of Ford and Ferrari. In the movie, we learn about the rivalry between the companies when it comes to the influential Le Mans race in France and about what it takes to make the best race cars in the world.

Ford v. Ferrari starts with the interests of Henry Ford II as he is drained from being shown up on the race track by the Ferrari racing company. Looking for a win in the upcoming racing season, Ford enlists the help of Carroll Shelby, a renowned car designer, and Ken Miles, a seasoned race car driver. The two set out on a high-speed escapade to design a Ford car to beat the famous Ferrari racers. Ford v. Ferrari follows the men’s records all the way to France for the Le Mans race of 1966.

While I am no racing enthusiast myself, this was a very exciting movie. The on-screen friendship between Miles (Christian Bale) and Shelby (Matt Damon) was wholesome and full of competitive banter. The chemistry of these two actors was evident, leading some to dub the film a “zesty bromance,” which I would not disagree with. Ford v. Ferrari was a hit in the box office when it raced by (pun intended), it’s expected goal and hit $200 million, according to box office sales reports.

Ford v. Ferrari was a face-paced film with action and characters that will charm you. This movie was good for laughs, heartfelt moments, and it was even nominated for Best Picture of the Year at the 2020 Golden Globes Awards show. I recommend Ford v. Ferrari to anyone interested in an exhilarating sports drama that will speed right onto your list of favorite movies (again, pun intended).
