NASA’s Red Planet Rover: Perseverance is Almost There

NASA’s rover, Perseverance, is halfway to the mysterious planet Mars.

NASA launched the Perseverance rover July 30th, 2020. The rover is heading through space at a speed of 24,600 miles per hour towards its final destination, Mars. NASA’s team announced on October 27th that the rover reached it’s halfway point of 146.3 million miles. On February 18th, the spacecraft will touch down on the otherworldly planet. It’s mission is to collect samples of Mars’ surface that can help scientists explain how Mars was developed and its history. The return mission that is run by a European company plans to have the rover return back to Earth in the year of 2031. Scientists are hoping that they can make many new discoveries about Mars and its past times. The journey is 292.6 million miles and the landing zone is called Jezero, a crater on Mars’ surface that is used as a landing spot for spacecraft.
