Some people were just born to help people and Emerald Lillian Clarke is one of those. Emmi, as she prefers to be called, loves helping others so much that she plans on becoming an Oncologist so she can help cancer patients get the best treatment available. Emmi has been personally been affected by cancer when a family member developed cancer in 2016. Emmi says that she “understands how it feels to be in that situation and wants to help people who are in a similar situation.” Emmi has a very caring personality.
Emmi especially cares for her parents, Michael and Peggy, and her sisters, Mari and Cassandra. In fact, when asked what she would do with five million dollars she said she would buy gifts for each of her family members to help repay them for all their support. Additionally, her family is the reason why Emmi got into softball in the first place. That's why Emmi’s favorite place in the world is the softball diamond. She also lives right across from the 4-H grounds so she easily fell in love with the world of 4-H. She won Reserve Champion for showing pigs for 4-H at the local state fair.
If Emmi had to describe this past year as a portion of food she said it would be described as “Sour Patch Kids because first, they are sour then they're sweet like how my year has been so far.” Speaking of sweet ideas, if Emmi could go anywhere she said that she would want to go to Florida. Tennessee also has a similar appeal to Emmi since it's the birthplace of her favorite type of music, country.
In the future, Emmi sees herself hopefully working at either Avera or Sanford, and living on a farm with her pets. No matter what the future entails for Emmi, I’m sure she will confront it with confidence and a smile on her face.
