Have you ever been woken up from your midday nap to a lawnmower outside of your home? It was probably Gabe Janke with the maintenance crew, tidying up a lawn. Gabe tends to work a lot to save up money to spend on hunting and fishing gear. Gabe is an avid hunter. He began hunting ten years ago at the age of 8.
Gabe hunts it all. His biggest achievement is shooting a 400lb black bear. Though he loves to hunt “four-leggeds,” waterfowl hunting will always be his favorite. He loves eating the animals almost as much as he loves the hunt. If Gabe could live anywhere in the world, he would choose Alaska. He says “In Alaska, there are many different animals I could hunt, plus - no bugs.” Gabe enjoys hunting with friends as well as family.
Fishing is just another small part of Gabe’s crazy life. Gabe enjoys fishing through all four seasons. In the summer you can find him on his small boat in a lake somewhere you’ve never heard of. Winter ice fishing is one of Gabe’s favorites and he also finds pleasure in the winter season hunting snow geese.
Growing up in Madison, SD, Gabe has grown to like it here and has decided that he would like to stay for good. In the near future, Gabe plans to join his step-dad in fighting wildfires around the United States while continuing to live in South Dakota. The outdoors is his favorite place to be, as it is where he spends most of his time. Gabe encourages everyone to “get outdoors” because “nature is beautiful.”
The two things that Gabe wishes to accomplish in his lifetime are to one day ride a bull and do some bullfighting. Gabe states that the ag classes are his favorite classes at MHS.
