On a warm, slightly rainy day, you are driving out on dirt roads looking for lightning, and you come across a random house. When you pull up, you see a girl playing saxophone in the window. That girl is probably Callie Frantzen.
Growing up with 6 other family members, 17-year-old Callie has gotten used to being around people. Maybe that is why she loves being so social with everyone. From her bandmates to her coworkers, Callie seems to be someone who is friendly with everyone. Or maybe she is just happy that she gets to go to band practice and play her saxophone every day. I have never met someone with such an interest in music. “Music should be part of your everyday life,” she said during our interview. “It really boosts your mood and makes you happier.” It must work because I have personally never seen her without a smile on her face. The only thing that would stop her contagious smile is her ranidaphobia, or more commonly known, phobia of frogs. She says she is absolutely terrified of them, and she always has been, but she doesn’t know why.
During her free time, she enjoys binge-watching Forensic Files or rewatching Don't Mess With the Zohan. When asked about what character from a show she would be she said, “Donna, from That 70’s Show, because I want to know what 70’s life was like.” Well, being able to play an instrument like the saxophone would probably give her a big step in that direction.
She also enjoys working. She currently works at The Office, where she cooks their delicious pizza and waitresses. During the summers, she works for K&J Enterprises, which is a traveling food booth company. She goes all around the state selling food in different places. She said she really enjoys visiting new places and selling food to people. It is a good thing she has a good work ethic because it will help her to accomplish her dream job.
When Callie graduates high school she would like to move out west to attend college at the South Dakota School of Mines. Her main goal is to become a Biomedical Engineer, so she can help the medical field move forward. Callie said one reason she wants to do an engineering job is that she has always liked math. She likes the ability to find different ways to solve a problem. When she graduates college she would like to move to a big city that is out of state, such as Portland, and she could settle down and get married. Let’s just hope for her sake that her husband doesn’t study frogs!
