Savannah Dickey comes from a big family( 9 siblings to be exact) including 3 half-sisters, 3 half brothers, 2 older sisters, and a younger brother. Her parents run a business called Dickey’s Designs, which sells oak furniture and cabinetry. She used to go to craft shows with her family when she was young. Savannah is a very bright kid, out of all the subjects at school, math is her favorite. If you can’t find her running at cross country, or solving hard math problems in her college algebra class, you might find her on the warm beaches of Florida, where she has visited twice. Her favorite part of the trip was watching professional fishermen reel in exotic fish and sharks, and jet-skiing around the gulf. It was so fun they went the next summer, where they kayaked in the mangroves, and also got out on a sandbar in the crystal clear water, collected seashells, and snorkeled. Savannah and her family thought about going down south for vacation again this year but decided to go to Custer instead because of the pandemic. She says she had fun, “but would much rather see the ocean again.”
Savannah currently works as a lifeguard at the Community Center, which she enjoys, but not as much as working at the Madison Aquatic Center, which was her old job. “I got to spend hours in the sun. I miss in-services and jumping off the diving board and going down the slide with my friends during our break.” Another job she used to have was as a dining assistant at Bethel, where she developed close relationships with the residents.
For the most part, Savannah is undecided about what she wants to do after high school, but she has thought about USD, GCU, or USF. She says, “It's a hard decision between staying close to family or being more in my element.” Savannah is most interested in studying psychology because she says “emotions and human behavior really interest me.”
