You never know when you’re going to run into Abby Palmquist. It could be at a sporting event cheering on the Bulldogs, at the local Dairy Queen, or in my case,  a sunny March afternoon at the Phoenix Sky Harbour International Airport. Abby Dawn Palmquist comes from a family of six: her parents Adam and Melissa; two sisters, Shelby and Mariah; her brother, Luke; and a one-eyed dog named Gracie. She has lived outside of Winfred, South Dakota all of her life.

One of the things that come easy to her is talking to people. In fact, she says that the most rewarding part of her job at Dairy Queen is having conversations with all different types of people. Some may say that Abby talks too much (she may even say that herself), but when asked what cartoon character best describes her she answered with, “probably Dora because I’m annoying.”

Abby would like to attend a two-year school to be an early childhood specialist major. Although she doesn’t know exactly what career she would like to pursue, she wants to work with children ages 0-5. For Abby, working and helping children will extend further than her career, she hopes that someday she will be able to adopt children and be a foster parent.

Something that Abby recommends to underclassmen is “living your high school life to the fullest. Don't go home at 9:00 - #yolo, get out there.” Ironically, every time Abby comes home after 9:00 she runs into a problem.  When asked if she’s afraid of anything she said, “Yes definitely, walking in the dark at my house from my car. I hear animals and it freaks me out.”
