Young, vibrant, 17-year-old Katharine Anne Comes has one important piece of advice for high school students: “making decisions for yourself doesn’t make you selfish.” Throughout her high school career, Comes has relied on her love of music to help her through the stressful days of high school. Comes, a star student, athlete, oral interp-er, and friend, has a total of 4 siblings: Nicholas, Olivia, Andrew, and Elizabeth, whom she loves very much. Although she loves her siblings dearly, her cat, Hazel, takes the cake in any competition for MVP in her family. Her parents, Heidi and Chad, continue to support her in any activity that she chooses to participate in.
A few things that Katharine Comes believes she excels in are being thoughtful, observant, and insightful. If you have ever spoken with Katharine, you know these three items are apparent. Thank goodness for those three items, because without them working at Valiant Living would be a struggle. Katharine states that the most enjoyable part of her job is “getting to spend time with the people supported while also gaining experience with different types of people.” She also believes that being “able to make a direct impact in someone’s life” is another enjoyable part of her work. As for Katharine Comes’s previous year, she describe it as a roast, specifically because “because it took a long time for me to figure everything out” although when everything finally fell into place its was like the “yummy meal” that was “so good when it's finally ready.”
If Katharine was to play a character in a TV show she would choose Kim from Kim Possible. Comes feels like it would be “ fun to be a secret agent.” As for what character best describes Katharine, that's a whole other story! Katharine Comes feels as if Dory would best describe her because she’s “spacey and forgetful,” but Dory always has an upbeat attitude and brings joy into other people's lives. If Katharine could live anywhere in the world she would choose any Latin country so she could experience another culture. Something that Katharine wishes she could do and not fail at consists of becoming a “full-time traveling missionary or teacher." She feels this would be enjoyable and rewarding.
We all wish that we could have superpowers, but Katharine would use her superpower of shapeshifting to experience things from a different perspective in life to fully understand each animal, object, and person's life. When it comes to her future, Katharine Comes doesn’t necessarily have her finger on what she plans to do, but she is interested in helping others through her career. Comes has always wanted to become a nurse, but a few other things that interest her are teaching ESL, psychology, philosophy, and literature.
She aspires to become a helper in this world and encourages underclassmen to be themselves and find the people who enjoy you for you. MHS will miss Katharine’s vibrant personality that shines through the school hallways.
