Kaitlyn Rose Sewell was born in Garnett, Kansas on February 4, 2004. Kaitlyn, otherwise known as Katie, has one older brother, a younger brother, and a younger sister, and they have all lived in Madison since 2014. Her family has moved houses once since living in Madison and are happy right where they are. Clearly, Katie has an avid love for animals since her family owns 6 Guinea Pigs, 10 fish, and 1 dog named Penny, who is a Cavachon. Speaking of her love for animals, Katie says that one item she could not live without is her dog. Her reason for this is, “because she’s my dog, do you have a soul?” Katie also loves the color royal blue which is fitting since she is also a big fan of the Kansas City Royals baseball team. She also enjoys watching the Disney movie Hercules, and thinks that the younger version of Hercules is the character that describes her best because “he’s a klutz.”

Undoubtedly, Katie loves her family and her pets and if she had 5 million dollars to spend on anything, she would get another dog (no surprise there), a nice house in the Bahamas, and surfing lessons. Katie would also buy her parents a vacation home somewhere warmer and would visit often to get away from the cold, midwest winters. Speaking of warm weather, if Katie could live anywhere in the world for a year, she would choose Costa Rica. Katie thinks that she would like to live in Costa Rica not only because of the warmer weather, but the diverse culture they have.

If you are ever looking for Katie Sewell, chances are she will be practicing in the band room or sharpening her skills on the basketball court. Once you get to know Katie, you will see she has a very strong passion for band. Katie says that she loves band because “it has the most real-life applications and it’s not emotionally or intellectually stressful.” Since joining band in 5th-grade, Katie has learned the clarinet, trumpet, flute, and trombone and has experimented with the bass guitar, double bass, and oboe. Out of this impressive list of learned instruments, Katie says her favorite to learn was either the trumpet or the electric bass. Needless to say, Kaitlyn is not afraid of a challenge and loves to try new things. English class is also something that comes naturally to Katie and it gives her more opportunities to learn new things. As for a bucket list, Katie doesn’t have one written down, but she does have a few ideas of what she would like to do. Katie would like to travel, learn ALL of the instruments she possibly can, and learn how to surf.

Currently, Katie works at the Community Center as a lifeguard and teaches swimming lessons. She says the most rewarding part of her job is “making people laugh.” Ten years in the future, Kaitlyn hopes to be living somewhere warmer than South Dakota and wants to own several dogs. With all of her musical talent, Katie wishes to pursue a degree in music, although she is unsure exactly where that will take her. Kaitlyn Sewell certainly is a very talented, passionate, and kind person, and her future is boundless.
