On December 2nd, the Educators Rising committee organized a winter food drive in the front lobby of Madison High School. The members who organized the drive include Emma Murray, Molly Murray, Chloe Schnieder, Piper Davies, Yarely Frias, Claire Meyer, Jillian Hubble, Taylor Buthe, Ava DuRandt, and Sophia Peterreins. With the help and leadership of our new student advisor, Sarah Landin, the group was able to set up a Christmas tree and boxes for teachers and students to donate food items. Students who face food insecurity will be able to benefit from the collection.
The winter food drive is accepting individual servings or family-size portions of food. A list of preferred items includes popcorn, Pop-Tarts, granola bars, jerky, cereal, ramen, spaghetti, peanut butter, and cans of fruits and vegetables. It would be preferred if the cans have a pop tab in case the students don't have can openers. The Educators Rising committee will be distributing the meals at the end of the fall semester before students leave for Christmas break.
